AFL Academy 2015 Female

As the talent pathway develops for female footballers and in keeping with male Academies the former High Performance Academy for females has been renamed AFL Academy.

The program again targets three groups of people:

  • Girls in their 16th year who have been identified within their State system as emerging talents and leaders
  • Mentee Coaches who are pursuing their Level 2 AFL Coach Accreditation or aspiring to do so and;
  • As professional development for State based staff who manage female talent programs or who assist National female programs such as medical staff and strength and conditioning personnel.

In it’s second year the Academy program for players includes elements of:

  • AFL skills and knowledge
  • Leadership and mentoring
  • Basic sports psychology
  • Nutrition and performance and;
  • Developing an ethos of ‘give back to the game’.

The Mentee Coaches both observe other coaches in action, provide feedback to the players and conduct their own game preparation with the athletes together with being involved in their own learning including about how to coach decision making, kicking analysis, and performing under pressure.

Carlton Football Club are again providing support with use of IKON Park facilities and coaching staff as well as providing nutritional meals through Dineamics catering at the Carlton Café.
