OPSM Sports Vision for Clubs Program

Thursday, August 20, 2015

As part of OPSM’s Sports Vision for Clubs Program, local Melbourne AFL club, Swinburne University FC, had a visit from their local team at OPSM Eye Hub.  Now in the program’s second year, selected clubs will receive $1,000 cash, $1,000 worth of brand new Sherrins and, most importantly, two nights of eye screenings for all players, coaches, officials,  family and friends.

George Koumantatakis from Swinburne University FC had the following to say about the OPSM Sports Vision for Clubs program;

The OPSM team came to training over two different days and were simply brilliant to deal with.

They were all very engaging, set up in a space that was mutually acceptable and provided an excellent service testing different elements of the guys sight from vision, to depth perception and colour blindness.

They also had a great range of sunglasses and contact lenses that were discounted by 20%.

The ease and convenience was appreciated by all as eye tests are something we never get around to doing when we are all so busy.

OPSM recognise the pivotal role that local AFL clubs play in the community and the support that is required for these clubs to continue to grow, which is why establishing a relationship between local club and store is so core to the program. From an on-field perspective, Tanya Wakeling, Store Manager at OPSM Eye Hub, touched on the benefits of the program in saying ‘I found it advantageous to these guys as things such as depth perception is key to marking and judging distances …. Imagine a team being unaware of issues that could improve their game?’

As with all local AFL Clubs, Swinburne University FC rely on a lot of community support to continue to grow and provide the appropriate environment for its players to learn, develop and be successful on and off the field. The cash prize and Sherrins were extremely well received and will give the club the push it requires heading into the back end of the season.

2015 saw a record number of AFL clubs apply, with over 400 entering nationwide.
