How does your club support umpires?

What do you or your club do to recognise and respect umpires on match days?

To coincide with the AFL's Umpiring is Everyone's Business campaign which was launched during round 8 of the 2010 Toyota AFL Premiership Season, the AFL invites you to enter our competition supporting umpires.

Tell us the best strategies you're implementing to educate your members (including players, coaches, parents and supporters) about the importance of their match day behaviour toward umpires.

Why support umpires?

Everyone impacts on the match-day environment that umpires participate in. Retaining enough umpires to officiate in matches will only occur if everyone takes responsibility for their behaviour on match day.

Creating a positive match-day environment for umpires is particularly critical given that the number of umpires required can no longer keep up with the growth of the game.

Help keep our umpires and make umpiring your business and you could win some great prizes courtesy of OPSM:

  • Arnette Rage XC  RRP $199
  • Oakley Gascan  RRP $149

I make sure I always talk to them and stire them up. At half time we always make sure there is a cold drink and two plates of sandwiches in their room. If posible I try to make sure i have a beer with them after the game.
