Female Touch

Friday, April 27, 2012

Nicole Graves has become the first female appointed as an assistant coach in the Western Australia Amateur Football League (WAAFL).

Her appointment as an assistant coach with the Mt Lawley FC follows her recent appointment as assistant coach of the All-Australian women's team.

"I hope that it breaks some barriers," Nicole explained.

Mt Lawley's head coach and Sandover medallist Shane Beros headhunted Graves to help the club reverse their runners up in last year's WAAFL A Grade Grand Final.

"The challenge for the boys is to hear what the words are saying rather than who it is coming from," Shane said.

"I knew they'd have no problem with it," Shane explained when quizzed about how the player's would handle having a female coach.
