SA Ready for National Inclusion Carnival

Friday, June 06, 2014

South Australia is gearing up for the 2014 National Inclusion Carnival to be held in Melbourne this month.

To be conducted from June 18-23, the competition will involve fifteen games being played across three days, culminating in the finals being played on the final day.

In addition, each team will have the opportunity to play a half-time demonstration game at the Round 14 AFL match between Melbourne and North Melbourne on June 22 at the MCG.

Set to tackle teams from Vic Country, Vic Metro, New South Wales, Tasmania and Queensland, South Australia is aiming to uphold the state’s proud record on the national stage.

‘’The guys are very proud, excited and looking forward to representing their state. We have had a good preparation so we expect to perform well,” SA coach, Bill Economou said.

The trip also includes time to work together as state representatives by conducting school football clinics, participate in training sessions, and tour Melbourne’s sites as a larger group in order to promote the carnival.

The carnival is supported by Sasrapid, an organisation supporting people with a disability to become involved in community sport and recreation activities.

“It has been an exciting 18 months working with both the SANFL and AFL to deliver a National Inclusion Carnival,’’ Sasrapid chief executive John Cranwell said.

‘’These players are valued members of local footy clubs who now have a wonderful opportunity to represent their state.’’

A State Team jumper presentation will occur on Monday June 16 at Adelaide Oval.

Port Adelaide defender Jack Hombsch, who is a National Inclusion Carnival Ambassador, will present the State jumpers in front of an invited VIP guest list before providing his last minute advice to the team members prior to their departure on June 18.
