THE Woomeras have finished their 2015 Youth Girls National Championships with an 18-point win over the Thunder Devils on the final day at Bendigo Bank Stadium in Mandurah, Western Australia.
The Thunder Devils beat the Woomeras by five points in a thriller on Tuesday on the second day of the Youth Girls National Championships, but the Woomeras turned the tide on Friday to close the week out for them in style with a 2.10 (22) to 0.4 (4) victory.
The Thunder Devils are a combined representative side with players from both the Northern Territory and Tasmania while the Woomeras are an Indigenous team selected from the Kickstart Carnival.
The Woomeras opened their week with a 14-point loss to NSW/ACT before then losing to the Thunder Devils by just five points on Tuesday and then putting in an impressive showing losing to the unbeaten South Australia by just the 26 points on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the Thunder Devils opened their week with a tough loss to South Australia by 70 points before then beating the Woomeras and going down to NSW/ACT on Thursday by 20 points.
But on Friday, it was the Woomeras who got their first win of the week thanks to kicking the only two goals of the game in the second and third quarters.
The Woomeras continued to pepper the goals but couldn’t quite get another major on the board but still won well by 18 points.
Kiara White and Kathleen Prosser were the goal scorers for the Woomeras in the victory.
Hayley Smith, Alyx Glanville, Tyeisha Tighe, Moesha Morris, Zania Rice and White were all among the best players for the Woomeras.
The Thunder Devils didn’t manage to score a goal despite having a good week showing exciting signs while having the challenge of bringing players together from both Tasmania and Northern Territory.
Kaitlyn Armstrong, Jessica Heenan, Georgia Hill, Zabreena Manjerovic, Nikita Long and Courtney Webb were among the best players for the Thunder Devils in their last match of the championships.
