A World Event - Under 16 Championships

AFL NAB Under 16 Championships
Olympic Park, Blacktown, Sydney 
Saturday July 3- July 10

Almost 60 players representing 18 nations have assembled to create two international teams: The World XVIII Team and the Pacific Nations Team.

The teams will compete against Australian State squads in the AFL NAB Under 16 Championships.

The World XVIII Team is made up of 30 players from 11 countries including: 

  • South Africa 5 players
  • Sudan 5 players
  • Canada 4 players
  • Northern Africa 3 players
  • Lebanon 3 players
  • USA 3 players
  • European 3 players
  • Iraq 1 player
  • Indonesia 1 player
  • China 2 players
  • Argentina 2 players

The Pacific Nations Team is made up of 26 players from 7 countries including:

  • Papua New Guinea 8 players
  • New Zealand 5 players
  • Fiji 2 players
  • Tonga 4 players
  • Nauru 4 players
  • Samoa 2 players
  • Solomon Islands 1 player

The two international teams are participating in a week-long training camp in Melbourne before travelling to Sydney on Friday to begin final preparations for competing in the NAB Under 16 Championships.

The Championships are divided into three divisions:

  • DIV 1: SA, VIC C, VIC M, WA
  • DIV 2 (A): QLD, NT, WORLD
  • DIV 2 (B): NSW/ACT, TAS, PACIFIC

The AFL says the teams represent a fantastic spread of youth from across the globe and a snapshot of an exciting future for the potential of the game beyond Australia.
