Discovering new horizons

A man cannot discover new horizons until he has the courage to lose sight of the shore.

The inclusion of the World XVIII and South Pacific teams in the 2010 NAB AFL Under 16 Championships signalled a major development in the AFL’s expansion internationally and showcased some of the talent that new markets could bring to Australian Football.

Consider the following percentages of international talent competing in each of the following major leagues:

AFL – 1%
NFL – 4%
NBA – 17%
Premier League – 54%

What will the percentage of international talent in the AFL be in 20 years time?

The inclusion of the World XVIII and South Pacific team has generated excitement in international markets and created a genuine pathway for international talent to reach their potential.

The International Scholarship List provides the vehicle for AFL clubs to explore the talent that exists in international markets.
