On Friday 9th November the Claremont District held their annual year eight and nine All Girls Lightning Carnival at College Park in Claremont.
Seven teams competed in the carnival with two teams each from Churchlands SHS, Shenton College and Perth Modern School and a team from Presbyterian Ladies College (PLC).
It was the first time PLC competed in the carnival and they did an outstanding job winning four of their six matches.
Shenton College (2) were the eventual winners of the carnival however all games were extremely close with no game decided by more than four goals.
It is the first time most of the girls had played competitive football and the skills and effort on display was really encouraging and exciting for the future of female football in the Claremont District.
The main focus was to make sure the girls enjoyed the day and learnt some of the rules of the game along the way.
This couldn't have happened without the great umpiring from Jayden DíVauz and Dan Barnes and the support from Charmaine Rogers of the Claremont Piranhas and Allana Dickie of the WAFC.
The Claremont Piranhas, the Claremont Districts women's team, have played a great role in developing female football in the District and we hope we can strengthen our relationship even further in the coming years.
An All Star side selected from this carnival who will represent the Claremont Piranhas and play against a representative side from the East Fremantle District.
This game will be played on Friday 30th November starting at 4.30pm at Claremont Oval.
Presentations and a BBQ will take place after the game.
