AFLQ - U18 Youth Umpire Camp

AFL Queensland held it’s first ever Under 18 AFL Youth Umpires Camp over the weekend with the camp designed to fast track the development youth umpiring skills throughout the state.

The camp which was held from Friday 26th to Sunday 28th February at Tallebudgera Recreational Centre saw over 50 junior participants attend from the Gold Coast, Brisbane and Sunshine Coast regions.

Simon Devine, Gold Coast and Northern Rivers Umpire Development Officer, believes that exciting times are ahead for umpires throughout Queensland.

“AFL is growing more and more each year throughout Queensland, so not only do players need to keep their fitness and skills up but umpire as well.”

“The camp was a great success; the juniors from all regions learnt skills and gained knowledge that will give them an immense head start for this football season,” Mr Devine said.

It was the first time for participants from the Gold and Sunshine Coast with all participants getting to know each other and participate in many team building exercises.

“We received feedback from the kids at the end of the camp and it was all encouraging, so hopefully with this positive criticism it will become an annual camp for promising junior umpires in Queensland,” Mr Devine said.
