EFLís All-Female Crew

Tuesday, June 14, 2011

The Eastern Football League used the big Queen's Birthday clash between Noble Park and Balwyn to celebrate the involvement of women in football.

The EFL's move coincided with the AFL's Women's Round, with the clash between the in-form Bulls and Tigers offering one of the league's biggest stages.

The reserves match was officiated by women, with an all-female crew of boundary, goal and field umpires taking charge, while AFL goal umpire Chelsea Roffey was guest of honour.

EFL head of umpiring Cameron Nash said Roffey's presence would be a great motivator for the young female umpires.

"To be able to appoint an all-female panel to a high-level match such as this displays how far the initiative of females taking up umpiring has come," Nash said.

"There's no reason why more females won't be umpiring at higher levels in the near future," Nash explained.
