There are five videos that test an umpires understanding in the following situations:

Awarding a free kick after a disposal

  • What should you do if a player is infringed upon after they have had a shot on goal?
  • If the initial kick was a goal do they get a second kick at goal?  And if so, where is that kick taken from?
  • If they kick a point do they get a second kick at goal?  And if so, where is that kick taken from?

Deliberately rushed behind

  • What needs to be taken into account when deciding whether someone has deliberately rushed a behind?

Holding the ball

  • What factors need to be taken into account when deciding whether someone should be penalised for holding the ball?

Fair bump - play on

  • Why is it important for the umpire to 'hold their whistle' in some situations?
  • What should the umpire look for when they anticipate a player is going to lay a bump?
  • How should the umpire communicate to the players following a bump?

No advantage

  • How much time do you allow play to unfold before calling the ball back?
  • How do you tell whether a player has had an advantage?

Do you have any processes you follow when faced with these situations during a match?
