Women’s Round was celebrated last weekend across the nation and there is one female boundary in the Eastern Football League who is making huge inroads as a boundary umpire.
Leah Young is one of 14 registered female boundary umpires in the Eastern Football League and at this stage of the season the most successful of them, having officiated in First Division in the past two weeks.
Leah commenced boundary umpiring seven years ago and with schooling and college over the previous four years has not had umpiring high on her list of priorities. However, she made a commitment to her Boundary Umpires Coach, Des Seaton at finals time last season to finish in the top 10 (male and female) boundary umpire’s this season and she is well on her way to achieving her goal.
She is 22 years of age, is a Level 2 accredited boundary umpire and has umpired over 150 games in Eastern Football League.
