Wednesday, September 15, 2010

Col Johnson is one of the seven volunteers to be named as a 2010 State Volunteer of the Year.

Over 120,000 volunteers help service Australian Football at all levels and the Australian Football League are forever grateful for the sacrifices Col and other volunteers make to continue supporting the game.

The 2010 State Volunteers of the Year winners are rewarded with a trip of a lifetime to the 2010 Toyota AFL Grand Final.  The trip includes:

  • Two return airfares to Melbourne (except Victoria)
  • Three nights’ accommodation at the Sofitel Melbourne (including breakfast)
  • Two tickets to the AFL Official Function at the 2010 Toyota AFL Grand Final
  • The opportunity to walk in the 2010 Toyota AFL Grand Final Parade
  • The opportunity to attend a morning tea in the AFL Media Centre with several AFL identities to discuss issues being faced within community football.

Col had a great time in Melbourne and offered the following when asked about his weekend.

"A weekend to remember for the rest of my life.  And the result just adds another memorable moment! From the start of my travel, the first night dinner at Othello's, to the meetings at AFL House, the parade, the lunch and accommodation and finally even my cab fare, I thank you.  To all of those wonderful volunteers and partners who made the weekend so memorable.  You are all so diverse and have unique qualities but have one thing in common - you all live your life so that others may enjoy the greatest game of all."
