Friday, July 04, 2014

In what was a perfect end to the Freo Dockers Cup, Kolbe Catholic College and St Mary’s Anglican Girls School celebrated grand final success last weekend at East Fremantle Oval, after taking out their respective divisions. Kolbe broke through for their maiden White division title with a solid display over-running a spirited Mater Dei College, in a free flowing entertaining match. The margin just 8 points at the final siren. While an experienced St Mary’s held on over a fast finishing St Brigid’s College to claim back to back Moore division flags by 9 points. This now sees St Mary’s claiming 3 premierships in a row in two different divisions.

In perfect playing conditions and in a terrific promotion for female football, the grand finals were played at a frantic pace with a high level of skill that thrilled the large crowd.

Competition patrons Debbie White and Alison Moore were on hand to present the Freo Dockers Schoolgirls Cup and medallions to the players, coaches and umpires.

Jesika Bussey (Kolbe),Emily Chang (Mater Dei), Taniesha Quince (St Mary’s) and Eliza Gelmi (St Brigid’s) were awarded the match balls post game as recognition for being their schools best players in the grand final.

“The West Australian Football Commission greatly appreciates the support received from all participating schools The Fremantle Dockers and School Sport WA. I would also like to sincerely thank those teachers who gave up their time to coach a school football team in the competition. Without our dedicated teachers this program couldn’t run as successfully as it has for the past 18 years” said WAFC Schools Competitions Manager Clayton Anderson.
