Football to Celebrate Islamic Holiday

Monday, September 15, 2014

Eid El Fitr is a holiday that marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting, and involves a number of feasts and celebrations.

The West Australian Football Commission hosted the Eid Cup for Islamic students at Tom Bateman Reserve in Thornlie on Thursday, August 28, in recognition of this important cultural event

Games were played between the Australian Islamic College in Kewdale, Thornlie and Dianella, Al-Hidayah Islamic, Damla College and Langford Islamic College.

We hope that all participants have fun on the day and are keen to learn more about getting involved in the football pathway. For our staff and volunteers it is also an opportunity to learn more about the Islamic faith and engage with the participants, WAFC Community Engagement Manager Paul Mugambwa said.

The inaugural Eid Cup was held in 2012.
