Training Blitz on Teacher and Pre Service Teachers

Tuesday, September 16, 2014

This year AFL Victoria has had a major focus on up skilling both Teachers and Pre service Teachers with two AFL School Ambassadors Professional Learning Days and four Pre service Teacher Induction to AFL Schools sessions across Victoria.

The aim of these Professional Learning sessions is to develop awareness, confidence and enthusiasm for the vast array of curriculum resources and engagement programs available to current teachers and teachers of the future.

We provide an understanding of what is available to them online through the website and the AFL Victoria Schools Site. The session focus on showcasing the variety of school curriculum resources available to be utilize and the many online student engagement programs such as the AFL Quiz, School Tipping and Schools Dream Team Competitions.

Football can be daunting to those that have never played the game so we try to dispel their concerns by putting them through a 60 minute practical Basic Coaching session that provides the participants with the confidence to conduct a football activity.

Finally, we introduce the participants to the game of AFL 9s where we present the new AFL 9s Teacher Curriculum Resource and provide the opportunity to get out and play the game, focusing on the versatility of the game when implementing in schools.

We have found a good balance of theory and practical in these sessions and feedback from the teachers have been overwhelmingly positive.

For more information on these sessions please contact Trevor Robertson School Development Manager at or call 8341 6014.
