The NSW Combined High Schools Sports Association has endorsed the AFL program to be sanctioned sport from 2016 onwards for NSW girls. The decision will see NSW have a team to contest U/16s Girls Championships at the School Sport Australia carnival, strongly reflecting the increasing growth of participation with increasing opportunities to represent their schools. NSW first entered a team at 2011 School Sport Australia Championships under invitational status when the championships where held in ACT. NSW was then offered another invitational team at the 2014 Championship held in Sydney. After strong performances on the field and an increasing amount of support and interest in Youth Girls AFL, NSW will again contest the 2015 Championships in Geelong with invitational status. Attending back to back Championships has allowed for the continued momentum whilst offering the opportunity for the school girls to compete at the highest level.
March 2015 saw the NSW Combine High Schools Sports Association (NSW CHSSA) sanction the AFL program which will ensure its ongoing inclusion at School Sport Australia Championships. The opportunity will allow for the continued development of Youth Girls football around NSW. Many stakeholders have been involved in the process of having the AFL program sanctioned by the NSW CHSSA but the ensuing outcomes of the completing the development pathway, providing opportunity and allowing individual play development will leave all stake holders well placed.
