Sporting Schools Program Launched in SA

Friday, March 20, 2015

The Sporting Schools pilot program has been launched in South Australia with phase one of the program being conducted in term 1.

There are currently 10 schools involved in the program with sessions running in the North Adelaide metropolitan and Sturt Country regions.

The pilot program is targeting reception to year 2 students who are participating in the Learn AFL model, a program designed as an introductory to the game with links to the Australian curriculum.

SANFL Community Programs Coordinator Jake Battifuoco sees great benefit in the new program “The Sporting Schools program is a fantastic initiative to engage primary school aged boys and girls through the new Learn AFL & Experience AFL models”

The program also provides an opportunity to further promote the NAB AFL Auskick program to participants creating a pathway for students for a lifelong involvement in the game.

Phase two of the pilot program will commence at the beginning of term 2 with the official Sporting Schools Program commencing in term 3.
