One Team One Goal Winners Announced

Wednesday, August 05, 2015

Victorian school students have demonstrated both their creativity and understanding of the importance of multiculturalism in the One Team One Goal – Celebrating Diversity competition.

The competition encouraged primary and secondary school students to create a video, visual or radio commercial that demonstrates their understanding of the importance of diversity and promotes the message that cultural diversity is recognised and celebrated in their community.

This week the fantastic winning entries were announced at the National Gallery of Victoria with AFL Schools Ambassador Trent Cotchin and Australia Post AFL Multicultural Ambassador Lin Jong on hand to congratulate the students.

AFL Victoria CEO Steven Reaper said it was fantastic to see the high calibre entries and congratulated all students who were involved in submitting an entry.

“AFL Victoria is proud to partner with the Victorian Government to educate students about the importance of respecting all people regardless of their background or beliefs,” he said.

“Australian football has a long been a powerful tool in breaking down barriers between different groups in society and this competition is a perfect chance for our sport to promote the importance of embracing diversity.”

The Minister for Education, Hon James Merlino, said the competition was a great initiative to get school children discussing the importance of diversity.

“It is encouraging to see Victorian students embracing and celebrating diversity through this fantastic competition,” Minister Merlino said.

“Victorian schools are at the heart of their communities, and the State Government is committed to ensuring schools are inclusive, safe and respectful learning environments where all students can thrive.”
