Mater Dei College - Redimed Cup Champions

Thursday, August 13, 2015

The Schoolboys Redimed Cup- Jakovich Division Grand Final brought to end a fantastic season of senior schoolboys football last week with two evenly matched schools going head to head at Hamer Park. The much anticipated clash between Mater Dei College and Halls Head College lived up to expectations in a hard fought game played in breezy conditions. Neither side took the early ascendency as both schools traded goals with some “slick” team play. A couple of late goals just before half time gave Mater Dei the advantage they were looking for. After the break Mater Dei took control in the middle of the ground and used this to kick five second half goals. Halls Head never gave up and fought the game right out with a two late goals. In the end it was Mater Dei who maintained control to run out winners by 28 points.

Andrew Smartt (Mater Dei) and Luke Shepard (Halls Head) were awarded the match balls post game as recognition for being their schools best players in the grand final.

WAFC Director of Game Development Warren Nel and AFL Umpire Dean Margetts were on hand to present the Schoolboys Redimed Cup and medallions to the players, coaches and umpires.

“The Schoolboys Redimed Cup- Jakovich Division Grand Final brought to a close the senior school boys football program. 2015 marks our 28th year of this competition, that has seen over 130 teams and 3500 students from across WA compete in a quality football program. A competition of this size and stature would not be possible without the support of our new program partner Redimed, The WAFC, School Sport WA and our participating schools. I would also like to sincerely thank those teachers who gave up their time to coach a school football team in the Schoolboys Redimed Cup competition” said WAFC Schools Competitions Manager Clayton Anderson.

The WAFC, School Sport WA and Redimed would also like to congratulate Newton Moore SHS for taking out the Walker Division of the Schoolboys Redimed Cup at the recent Senior High School Country Week Championships.
