ACC's Best put on Grand Final Day Showcase

Wednesday, August 26, 2015

If the 2015 Associated and Catholic Colleges of WA Freo Dockers Cup Grand Final was anything to go by, the future of female footy in schools is in safe hands.

This years’ competition consisted of the winning Freo Dockers Cup schools from preliminary rounds played earlier in the school term, which included some of the 3000 students and 150 schools taking part across the state, that culminated with a final series at City Beach Oval this month.

The Grand Final tri-series, now in its third year has given female students the opportunity to play our great game and to showcase their skills they have acquired throughout the program.

The action took place in ideal conditions, with teams from Seton Catholic College, Mandurah Catholic College and Mater Dei College completing a fierce but fair round robin competition.

Seton Catholic College came away as the 2015 champions in one of the closest Freo Dockers Cups so far. With the result being decided in the last game only by percentage.

Undertaken simultaneously at the same venue was the boys’ competition, the “Freo Dockers Shield”.

Grand Final Schools- Mazenod College, Emmanuel Catholic College and Sacred Heart College took part in a highly competitive tri-series.

After a huge effort and great skills shown from all teams in another tight affair it was Sacred Heart College who just edged out Emmanuel College in the final game of the day to become the Freo Dockers Shield ACC Division champions of 2015.

Students from the SEDA Fremantle Dockers Sports Development Program were on hand to umpire the Grand Final series as part of their professional development program.

The day was deemed a great success due to the strong working partnership of the Associated Catholic College, WA Football Commission, Fremantle Football Club and SEDA. All stakeholders are looking forward to a bigger and better program in 2016.
