Key Lions' players developed and will deliver a new leadership program

Lions Launch Lion Hearted Leaders

Thursday, March 15, 2012

Key Brisbane Lions players, Jonathan Brown, Daniel Merrett, Jed Adcock, Simon Black and Tom Rockliff will deliver a leadership program into Queensland schools.

The players came up with the idea for the program while on their pre-season training camp in Arizona.

Called the Lion Hearted Leaders, the schools-based program will deliver core leadership principles in a language easy for school-aged children to understand by using terms ‘inclusion’ and ‘mateship’.

The Brisbane Lions players developed the program in conjunction with the Brisbane Lions Welfare and Fan Development departments, and AFL Queensland.
During the 2012 pre-season camp, the players identified a need to increase their presence in schools and junior clubs, broaden their footprint within the community and contribute to growing the game of AFL in Queensland.

Out of this, the idea was formulated to create a leadership program that can contribute to a school’s curriculum.

The Lion Hearted Leaders is based on Brisbane Lions’ in-house leadership principles which are actively demonstrated on a day-to-day basis by coaches and players.
