Gold Coast SUNS players Daniel Gorringe and Taylor Hine with students from Ashmore SS

Gold Coast School Students Shine

Wednesday, March 28, 2012

It may have been a wet day last week but that didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of over 300 students from schools all over the Gold Coast, who attended the first Gold Coast Suns Shine schools program carnival day for the year today at Metricon Stadium.
Students from Beechmont SS, Ashmore SS, St Augustine’s Primary, Southport SS and Coomera Springs SS all took part in the Shine Schools carnival day, a program that is delivered in schools thanks to the support of the Queensland Government and one of the clubs corporate supporters McDonald’s Gold Coast.
The carnival is a culmination of the 4 weeks of program activity that has seen students learn directly from within their classrooms from the Gold Coast Suns players on how to be healthy and active, beach safety from GCCC Lifeguards and how to play AFL from the AFL Queensland Game Development team.
And as a great surprise to students, players Daniel Gorringe and Taylor Hine  dropped in for a special visit at the carnival day. Daniel and Taylor encouraged students to be healthy and active as part of the day through participation in various activities including the innovative inflatable equipment, as part of the program.
Feedback from teachers and parents has been overwhelmingly positive with many teachers booking the program for their Grade 4 students and aligning this to their curriculum.
Every student who takes part in the program receives a 28-page colour booklet that has various information about the program including a personal food diary and details on the Gold Coast Suns players who deliver the program.
