WA too good for NSW/ACT

Thursday, May 09, 2013

Eight goals to Kira Phillips has fired Western Australia to its third victory of the AFL Youth Girls National Championships.

A powerful WA side 11.9 (75) proved too strong for NSW/ACT 0.0 (0) who fought tooth and nail for every minute of the match.

Phillips was electric playing out of the goal square, booting majors from all angles in a best-on-ground display.

Katrina Tinson and Caitlyn Edward were others to find their best footy against a determined NSW/ACT outfit.

The underdogs were well served by defenders Victoria King and captain Sophie O’Dea who battled gallantly under significant pressure.

Nicola Barr and midfielder Madelane Collier also won the plaudits of her coach for their fighting qualities.

Kristen Jayasuria and captain Emma Swanson maintained their good form for WA and loom as crucial players in tomorrow’s grand final.

WA will welcome back Kellie Gibson for the title decider after the on-baller has missed the past two games through suspension.
