O'Dea looks for perfect end

NSW/ACT captain Sophie ODea will be pivotal to her teams chances of claiming its first ever win today at the AFL Youth Girls National Champs.

It may not be the ending South Australia/Northern Territory and NSW/ACT would have hoped for, but both sides have the chance to finish the week on a high today.

Neither team has managed a win after three tough rounds of preliminary matches, but both can hold their heads up high.

NSW/ACT was far from disgraced against Vic Country/Tasmania on Day 1 and backed it up with gallant efforts against powerful outfits, Victoria Metro and Western Australia.

Leading from the front all week and in particular against WA is captain Sophie ODea.

The 17-year-old, along with Victoria King was inspirational playing in a back line under siege for the majority of the match.

Ive been stoked with how weve been going, ODea said.

In the past few years when weve played against Victoria wed get beaten by 200 points. So to keep them to 80 points, 40 of which were scored in the first quarter, is an amazing effort.

We want to be a tough team to play against and the Victorian coach told our coach that her girls hated playing against us because we go in so hard.

ODea from Canberra plays her football with Belconnen Magpies and says she owes her footy career to her sister and father.

My sister Elise (All-Asutralian started playing when she was 14 and dad had played footy all his life so he started coaching our womens team. I was only 14 when I started too and got special permission to play, she said.

It made us so much closer as a family. Wed go home and talk about footy, go to sleep thinking about footy and wake up wanting to more about footy.

ODea said a win today would mean the world to her and every girl who plays football in NSW and the ACT.

Its been four years and zero wins at the championships so it would be a real honour to be the first team to do it.

As soon as this team was selected I knew we were capable of it, that we were better than previous years.
