SA/NT clinches fifth spot

Friday, May 10, 2013

South Australia/Northern Territory has shrugged off a determined NSW/ACT outfit to finish fifth at the Youth Girls National Championships.

Searching for their first ever win at the Youth Girls National Championships, NSW/ACT threw everything at their opponents but couldn’t stop SA/NT finding the edge when it mattered.

The Allan sisters, Megan and Sarah were the main destroyers for SA/NT with two goals apiece, while co-captain Alexandra Price was inspirational as she has been all week.

After a spirited first half it was SA/NT that enjoyed a slender 8-point lead, with the speedy Danielle Stewart, Molly Smallacombe and Bec Wells among their better players.

NSW/ACT had their own stars with Victoria King and Madelane Collier attacking the ball with ferocity and ensuring their team had plenty of chances moving forward.

Price was moved to centre half forward at the start of third term and kicked the first goal of the quarter to give her side a handy 15-point break.

Karissa Searle added another moments later, converting a tough set shot and the SA/NT team looked home.

Sarah Allan made sure of it in the last with two goals in two minutes to help side to 6.6 (42) to 1.1 (7) victory.
