Price Bags 8 as WA Breeze Past Vic Country

Monday, May 05, 2014

A dominant first quarter set Western Australia up for a big win when they took on Vic Country in the fifth match of the 2014 AFL Youth Girls National Championships.

Western Australia scored in the first minutes, set up by Caitlyn Edwards then kicked by Katrina Tinson, moments later, the second goal was slotted expertly by Asha Price.

Vic Country responded with a goal from Kelly Shotton, with conditions improved markedly overnight and the lack of wind assisted accuracy in the early stages of the game.

Western Australia was as aggressive in their defence as they were in attack, and Vic Country’s scoring efforts were thwarted at each turn.

An incredible six goals before quarter time signaled the tone of the game but WA were slowed in their scoring in the second by a defensive Vic Country, still managing to put on a goal and a behind  to take the score to 7.3.45 to 1.0.6 at

Asha Price goaled shortly after half time, with WA kicking with a blustery wind.

Vic Country’s attacking game picked up in the third quarter, and their tenacity saw the WA players exposed in some areas of their game. Despite this Vic Country were unable to improve their scoreline by much, putting on just a sole behind.

WA was against the breeze in the final quarter, but key forward Asha Price was unfazed – kicking her seventh of eight goals for the match.

Vic Country spent a lot of time inside fifty but failed to register on the scoreboard after gutsy defence from Hayley Miller.

Western Australia’s Jennifer Brown scored the final goal in the last seconds of the game, after Sabrina Frederick-Traub made a stunning break from the pack before passing to Brown.
