Vic Metro Book their Place in Big Dance

Thursday, May 08, 2014

Vic Metro are the first team through to the Grand Final, defeating their Victorian counterparts, Country, by just five points in a close contest.

A big final term from Vic Country almost stole the win, but the Metro girls managed to hold on to clinch the win 4.4.28 to 3.5.23 and cement their place in the Pool A decider.

Both teams came out firing, with some hard knocks and great tackling setting up the theme of the day. The scoreline didnít reflect the effort from Vic Country, with two goals to Metro giving them the early lead.

Countryís Isabella Ayre took a great grab and goaled from a set shot directly in front for Country, to pull back the lead.

It didnít take long for Georgie Walker to get the reply, intercepting the ball and kicking a great running goal for Metro to push the scoreline out again.

Vic Country missed some opportunities in the third quarter, holding the majority of possession and getting plenty of the ball in their forward fifty.

A goal apiece to both sides set up the fourth quarter, with Metro hitting the post for the third time in the match.

Vic Country quickly took the ball from post to post, setting up Letisha Maraltadj with a beautiful set shot to bring Country to their closest margin of the match.

Bella Ayre had the chance to put Country in front with one minute to go, not quite making the distance and getting it rushed through for a minor to end the game.
