How the Champs BeganQueensland and Victoria began a series of invitational games in 2008 which were so well received by the players, is was decided in 2010 to implement the AFL’s U18 Youth Girls National Championships.
The inaugural Championships were contested in Craigieburn, Victoria between a combined NSW/ACT side, AFL VIctoria Development, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia and Team WA.
The girls play an exciting and entertaining brand of football, unafraid to attack the ball hard and applying at times, brutal tackles. Their youth exuberance shows through as they produce a fast running style of play.
Teams are selected from local youth girls clubs as well as schoolgirls teams.
